Dear Fireflyers,

With such loss and anxiety suffered during this pandemic year, it’s comforting to know that we can still enjoy fireflies, extraordinary insects that have been lighting up Earth’s nights for many million years. We’re fortunate to have 2000+ different firefly and glow-worm species that enrich our lives with their sparks of wonder. Their natural magic inspires us with optimism and hope in even the darkest of times.

This year’s World Firefly Day 2020 will take place July 4-5. In response to these terrible times, we have changed the theme to Hope rising!  Because large gatherings will be impossible in many countries, this year we will host a virtual celebration through our Youtube channel and the FIN Facebook group. Wherever you can, we encourage you to step out into the night to watch fireflies in your backyard or local park. And even if you can’t see fireflies this year, please join the celebration by sharing your firefly stories, poems, or artwork with fellow firefly enthusiasts on the FIN Facebook group.

Please stay safe and be well, and thank you for helping us keep the firefly magic alive!
